Neil Lennon reacts as Celtic legend sends Manchester United 'fireworks' warning after Euro shock

Celtic legend Neil Lennon has warned Manchester United they face an atmosphere of hostility when they come to Cyprus for a meeting with his Omonia Nicosia side.

The former Hoops and Hibs boss pulled off a Europa League play-off shock by dumping Belgian outfit Gent into the Europa Conference League, booking their place in a group involving Erik Ten Hag's Red Devils. It's a huge chance for the former midfielder who is impressively rebuilding his managerial stock after leaving Celtic Park in 2021.

A trip to Old Trafford beckons but Lennon says it will be a night of colour when Manchester United travel abroad to face them on their home patch. He told TalkSport : “It was a really impressive achievement for the club. Gent in the previous round they would have been the toughest team to get, and we drew them. We negotiated the ties really well, played really well.

"We were excellent over there as well. They had a few chances in the first game, which you’d expect, but last night we closed the game out really well so we’re all delighted.

“He [Omonia’s chairman] was straight on the phone, it’s amazing out here, British football is so big out here. You could sell out [our stadium] three times over I’d imagine, the stadium holds about 25,000 so you can imagine the excitement it’s going to bring.

“They do make a lot of noise our fans, they will have fireworks and all the other pyrotechnics but they’re well behaved in the main so I think everyone will be excited for it.”
