Former Celtic boss Neil Lennon has reportedly been offered to Marseille as he looks for his next managerial role after leaving Omonia Nicosia.
But it appears the Ligue 1 side prefer other options with renowned Argentine Marcelo Gallardo the hot favourite. Lennon has been out of work since leaving Omonia Nicosia in October and is on record as being keen to get back into management. The former Parkhead and Hibs gaffer made European history in Cyprus, shocking Gent to qualify for the Europa League where they took on Manchester United and Real Sociedad.
But results in the cinch Premiership weren't good enough and he was let go in October. Since then he's been keen to stress he is biding his time but work has been going on behind the scenes to get him back into work. According to Sport365 journalist Patrick Juillard, he was "offered" to managerless Marseille earlier this month and "would not say no" to a move to France if offered it by a Ligue 1 side.
But former River Plate boss Gallardo is the firm favourite and it seems a surprise appointment for the former Celtic boss is not genuinely on the cards at this stage. It's claimed Paulo Fonseca is another genuine candidate should Gallardo not come to pass.
Speaking about his future back in February, Lennon said he was keen to get back into it but wasn't interested in the Aberdeen job which was open at the time. He told Football Betting: "I’m alright at the moment. There’s nothing really tickling my fancy.
"I’m looking forward to getting back home and looking again because you sort of start getting the itch after a while. I’ve had plenty to do with TV and consultancy work so you're never really out of the game. You just miss the day-to-day stuff and obviously the buzz of matches."
