Neil Lennon dejected as Celtic hero denied super Manchester United result by stoppage time winner

Francis Uzoho was inspirational for Neil Lennon but it wasn't enough as the Celtic hero led Omonia Nicosia in their Europa League match with Manchester United, losing to a 93rd minute goal during a 1-0 defeat.

The former midfielder drafted in the Nigerian goalkeeper from the start with number one Fabiano not in the squad and he was leading a one-man mission to keep Erik ten Hag's Europa League big-hitters at bay. Marcus Rashford and Antony were just some of those denied, a double-save at the start of the second half needing seen to be believed.

It was a heroic display from the Cypriots who had chances to score the counter-attack, having ran Man United close in last week's 3-2 loss on home soil. The Red Devils dominated this one but Cristiano Ronaldo was one of many cutting frustrated figures amid wave after wave of red attack but still the former Celtic gaffer's men stood strong as tensions grew inside Old Trafford.

A 2-1 Celtic win over Barcelona was masterminded by Lennon in 2012 and after a whopping 33 shots on goal, the away side were left heartbroken by Scott McTominay's low effort.

It does mean their second tier stint will end at the group stage as they sit nine points behind the Premier League giants with two games to go. But there's still a chance of dropping into the Europa Conference League in third ahead of FC Sherriff.

This is Lennon's first club since leaving Celtic in 2021 and he has guided them to Cypriot Cup glory and the Europa League group stages since his arrival earlier this year.
