Neighbours wake up to bomb disposal unit on quiet street

Neighbours on a residential street were concerned when dozens of police swarmed their road this morning.

During the early hours of Friday morning, a large police presence was seen on Outer Forum in Norris Green for a search warrant. It came as an ongoing investigation into the buying of chemicals that could be used to make explosives.

Around seven marked police vehicles were seen in the area and one house appeared to be taped off. A bomb disposal unit was also spotted.

Later that morning, residents were concerned when they saw the heavy police presence and bomb disposal unit as one woman, with family on the street, said: "It is worrying."

One woman who lived a few doors down told the ECHO she "heard nothing" during the early hours of the morning but woke to see police outside her home. However, she confirmed residents on the street were not evacuated or told to stay indoors.

The ECHO understands police were seen on the road from around 4am but Outer Forum remained open through the morning to motorists and pedestrians. Greater Manchester Police previously confirmed that a 19-year-old man was arrested and remains in custody.

A spokesperson for Counter Terrorism Policing North West said: "Today (Friday, May 26, 2023), officers from Merseyside Police and Counter Terrorism Policing North West executed a search warrant at a property on Outer Forum, Liverpool.

"A 19-year-old man was arrested under section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000. The man remains in custody at this time for questioning.

"The warrant was executed as part of an ongoing investigation into the purchase of chemicals that could be used to make explosives. As a precaution, the property was evacuated and Explosive Ordinance Disposal officers attended.

"The property has since been declared safe and a scene will remain in place whilst officers carry out their enquiries."
