Neighbours living in a 'quiet street' have told of their fears after officers searched their garden following a violent attack. Retired residents in Cotgrave were left in shock as three police cars were called to reports a man in his 20s was assaulted in Grassmere.
The community has described the moment their street was cordoned off by police, at around 7pm on Wednesday, March 1. They said officers stayed at the scene throughout the night.
Police left the scene before 12noon on Thursday, March 2. A blood stain could be seen on the road surface of Grassmere.

Ann and Sherman Peck, a retired couple who have lived in Grassmere for more than 30 years, said they had “never heard of anything of this scale before”. Mrs Peck, 70, added: “It rocked my boat when police came and they told us. Officers searched the garden.
“We could not get out. It was scary to be stuck here.”
She added: “I saw the blue lights last night and I just assumed that maybe it was an ambulance for one of the neighbours. I did not realise how bad it was.”
Mr Peck, 76, added: “It is the first incident of this scale that I know of to ever happen here. It was a huge response from police. They cordoned off the street immediately.”
Gill Thorpe, 76, said: “It is very scary, especially if they have not caught the person who did it yet.
“I am very scared. I am feeling a bit uneasy to leave the house now. It is very frightening.”
Ms Thorpe has lived in the area for 33 years, and added: “It was a big police scene last night - like in action movies. There were police cars, paramedics. It was very scary.”
Another neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, added: “We feel very sorry for the man who is now in hospital. Sometimes I can hear police cars in the area but I have never seen anything like this before.”
He added: “We were getting our children ready for bed last night when police came and cordoned the street off. They stayed throughout the night, there was even a police van here this morning."
Detective Sergeant Matt Dumbrell, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "This was a violent assault that left a young man in hospital with a serious head injury. We are currently investigating what happened in the moments before, during and after this incident and urge any witnesses to come forward."
