Janet Andrewartha, best known for her role as Lyn Scully in the popular Australian soap Neighbours, has died at the age of 72.
The actress died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, with her daughters Eloise and Sarah by her side.
The long-running soap opera paid tribute to Andrewartha on its official Instagram page, saying: "Everyone at Neighbours is deeply saddened by the passing of Janet Andrewartha. Beloved by viewers for her role as Ramsay Street's Lyn Scully, Janet will be remembered for her wide body of work, which includes her memorable turn as Reb Keane in Prisoner: Cell Block H."
Andrewartha's co-stars have been quick to express their grief and admiration for the late actress.
Jackie Woodburne, who plays Susan Kennedy in the show, said: "Janet was one of the finest actors of her generation, but more than that, she was an extraordinary woman. Passionate, political, curious, delightfully eccentric, generous and fun. To me she was a steadfast friend for over 45 years. I will miss her every day."
Stefan Dennis, known for his role as Paul Robinson, wrote on X (formerly Twitter): "So very upset to lose the lovely Janet. As Jackie said, she truly was an exceptional actress who was a pleasure work with and to be around. We will all miss you dear girl."
Colette Mann, who portrayed Sheila Canning, added: "I was so shocked to hear this news yesterday and I can only echo Jackie's words about Janet… brilliant, crazy in the best way, a good friend and great colleague. Vale Ms Janet my friend."
Andrewartha first appeared in Neighbours in 1999 as Lyn Scully, arriving in Erinsborough with her husband Joe and daughters Steph, Felicity and Michelle.
She remained a regular cast member until 2006, later returning in 2008 for what was intended to be a guest role.
Her final departure from the show came in 2011, with Andrewartha commenting at the time: "I originally came back in a guest role and ended up staying for nearly two years, so the extra time has been a bonus."
