Neighbours have expressed their shock after emergency services descended to a city road to deal with a serious house fire. The emergency services were called to serious house fire in Alfreton Road, in Radford at around 6.40pm on Wednesday (August 10).
Firefighters from the Stockhill, Arnold, West Bridgford and Carlton fire stations responded to the scene of the fire, where part of the road was cordoned off by police. No one was injured in the blaze, but fire crews are now carrying out a fire investigation after the house was "severely damaged".
People nearby expressed their relief that no one was harmed by the incident, and spoke of the surprise at the sight of the emergency services on the road. Hardi Mohammed, 21, from Radford, said: “My friend lives in the house but he was outside when it happened and is okay. There were no flames when I got here just smoke. I’m glad everyone seems alright, but it is a shock to see all this.”

Riz Gaib, 24, from Radford said: “I was planning to go this way to visit a friend but I was told to turn around. I have to go all the way around now. I was surprised to see it all - I don’t know what happened all I know is you can see the smoke."
Shirley Levy, 59, said: “We would wish them all the best and hope they are safe. Today there were a lot of marked police cars about."
Shereen Spurgeon, 54, added: “It seems under control and the fire crews seem relaxed, so hopefully it is all okay.”
The incident was first reported to the fire service by police officers who were driving past the scene. Nottingham City Transport said its 77, 78 and 79A buses were diverting via Radford Boulevard and Hartley Road in both directions due to the fire.
A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, at 9.30pm, said: "We're still on the scene. We are conducting a fire investigation which will go on for a few hours.
"The house has been severely damaged by the fire. No injuries have been reported and everyone has been accounted for."
