Logan residents have gathered in the street to remember their neighbour Stanley Obi, who died on Thursday after an attack on his home in New Beith, south of Brisbane.
Few of the 100 people who turned out to pay their respects to Mr Obi knew their neighbour, but resident Gloria Mavugata said it was important for the community to come together.
"It's a message that we're all here for each other even if a lot of people didn't know the family," she said.
The memorial was organised by Kam and Pana Lal, who were the first to provide aid when Mr Obi struggled from his home in the early hours of Thursday with burns to 90 per cent of his body. He died later that night.
"It's all about getting people together to grieve Stan and support all those affected by this tragedy," Mr Lal said.
Mr Obi's former partner Sarah Mudge entered his home before dousing the property with petrol and setting it alight.
Mr Obi's new girlfriend, 30, managed to escape with minor burns before the house went up in flames. Ms Mudge died in the blaze.
Officers are investigating the former couple's relationship. In the past year the pair took out domestic violence orders against each other, legal sources told ABC News.
Many residents of Bidyan Boulevard have only recently moved in — the area is full of newly built houses. Some laid flowers outside the burnt property on Sunday.
Mr Obi had lived in the street for several months after building a house there.
He was a care manager for the Aveo Group's Newstead retirement community in Brisbane and died aged 33.
