'Neighbours kicked our cat so I got a video doorbell - now they've tampered with it'

A worried mum has opened up about the turmoil she's experiencing with her nightmare neighbour, who tampered with her video doorbell after she installed it for extra security.

According to this concerned mother, she and her family share a balcony with their neighbour, in a new build block of flats. Problems arose shortly after the neighbour, who had recently moved in, attempted to "'pop in' unannounced" while the woman was feeding her then five-month-old child.

She'd told her neighbour it just wasn't a good time, but this apparently infuriated her, and she's been doing "nasty things" to the family ever since.

Things took another drastic turn when the nightmare neighbour allegedly began vandalising their doorbell, covering the camera up with plasters.

Taking to Reddit, the distressed woman explained: "They kicked our cat, so now we don't let him out there. They've been moving our things so I asked them not to, they responded by screaming at us and then throwing all of our kids' outdoor toys at the front door.

"Police were called. We've just installed a smart doorbell with a camera, and they've covered the camera with some plasters. Called police, waiting for them now. But they've continued to tamper with our doorbell and when we asked them to stop she said we've been watching them and implied my husband was a perv."

Reaching out to fellow Reddit users for advice, she continued: "Filmed it all, but the scariest thing is she seems to be bats*** crazy and make things up, and I don't know how to manage with them next door.

"I don't want an escalation but we feel seriously unsafe. Any advice on what we can do aside from police/Citizens Advice? Thanks in advance."

One person suggested: "Make sure you keep a diary of every single event, save any doorbell footage and reference this within the diary. Keep it in electric format and every time you make a crime report send the Office In Charge the latest version of the diary.

"When you are given a crime reference number or a log number add this to the diary. Report everything! Yes, you will be making yourself a problem, but resources are tight so you will only be dealt with properly when you are a problem.

"If after a number of reports you are feeling that things aren't changing or you aren't being taken seriously ask for it to be escalated to the Neighbourhood Inspector and request an in-person meeting."

Another commented: "Document incidents: Continue to document all incidents, interactions, and any evidence you have, including videos or photographs. This will help provide a comprehensive record of the ongoing issues.

"Talk to your building management: Reach out to your building management or landlord and inform them about the situation. They may have policies in place to address such conflicts and can mediate or take appropriate action."
