Neighbours have recalled hearing a car horn and a bang after a vehicle hit a lamppost outside a café in Newark. Residents reported hearing a loud noise during the incident in Northgate Road, Newark, at about 2.30pm on Saturday, July 23.
A police cordon was in place from a red car to the entrance of Donna B's Tasty Bites café. It is understood the incident had a minimal effect on traffic. Describing the incident, Jody Bett, co-owner of The Coffee Chain, opposite the crash, said: "All I heard was a horn and bang, I didn’t see anything. It was a long horn. We heard the bang from all the way over here.
A member of staff at the café added: “Then lots of people went running towards it.” North Gate resident Nathan Ainsbury, 23, said: "We got back as it was all happening. I looked out the window and saw the police officer and the red car. I was wondering what had happened myself to be honest."
The cordon was removed at around 4.30pm. Nottinghamshire Police have been contacted for further information.
