A new service station in Nottinghamshire has been praised by neighbours who say it's "great" to have it on their doorstep. Despite concerns over the new Welcome Break Services at Fernwood, near Newark, neighbours are now thrilled to have so many more options in the area.
The services officially opened on Saturday, March 4, and contains a Starbucks Drive-Thru, Burger King Drive-Thru, Pret, Greggs and a Budgens convenience store in addition to a fuel station. There is also plenty of parking for cars, chargers for electric vehicles and it has created more than 80 jobs for the area.
Some local residents initially had concerns over the service station, after months of construction and roadworks caused problems on local roads, but many now feel it's a great asset. When asked if he had been to the site yet, fire safety consultant, Mark Mortimore, 56, said: "Yeah a couple of times and I got fuel from it last week.

"There don't appear to be any issues. You've got takeaways, a cafes, you have got a Pret A Manger and a Burger King and a general store.
"It's a great facility to have in the local area." Advanced work practitioner, Rachel Greenwood, is also pleased with the services.
The 55 year old said: "It's a great place and I have used the services quite a bit. We've used it for petrol and I've used it for the services inside and I think it's really great and we've not had any problems.
"There's been no problems with the service station causing traffic issues." However, some residents still do have their concerns.
Retired, Janet Robinson, 65, said: "I've not been yet it was a nightmare when they were building it as I'm disabled and use a mobility scooter and trying to cross the road with all the backed up traffic was horrible. It's still a bit concerning at the crossing to cross to go into Balderton.
"They only have the one exit and entry into the services so It can take a long time to cross." When asked if she had been to the services yet, Fernwood resident, Theresa Loseby, said: "No I haven't been."
The 53 year old said: "We are just concerned about the exit because traffic can turn right but we are just worried there will be an accident and then we won't be able to get into Newark at all. I don't have a problem with it other than we think it's a bit of a design fault.
"We will be using it as the petrol price is very reasonable."
