Neighbours bringing back Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan for final episode - reports

Iconic Neighbours characters Scott and Charlene could make a long-awaited return for the axed soap's final episodes.

Bosses have a wish list of big name former stars and hope Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan will be among them, according to reports.

Their characters were last seen on the show more than three decades ago, but Jason's real-life daughter Jemma Robinson is currently starring in the show as Harlow Robinson.

The Birmingham Mail reports that a source told the Sun newspaper: “Bosses have spoken to Jason who has agreed in theory to return.

"Kylie has always been a huge supporter of the show — they’re just waiting to hear back.”

A spokesperson for the channel said: "Neighbours will no longer air on Channel 5 beyond this summer.

"It's been a much-loved part of our schedule for more than a decade, and we'd like to thank the cast, Fremantle and all of the production team for their fantastic work on this iconic series.

"We'd also of course like to thank the fans for their loyal support of Neighbours across the years.

"We recognise that there will be disappointment about this decision, however our current focus is on increasing our investment in original UK drama, which has strong appeal for our viewers."

Neighbours was shown on BBC One until 2008, when it moved to Channel 5.

Scott and Charlene's 1987 wedding was watched by 20 million viewers in the UK, with the characters leaving the fictional world of Erinsborough behind in 1988 for a move to Brisbane.
