With Neighbours soon coming to an end, actor Alan Fletcher jetted over to the UK and made a rare appearance on This Morning. Alan, who has played Karl Kennedy in the Australian soap for almost 30 years, was visibly emotional when talking to Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary about the show's final few weeks.
After viewing a montage created by This Morning on Monday, July 11, Alan said: "Oh man, that was a trip wasn’t it," before admitting that the clip had made him shed a tear. He added: “It’s wonderful to be here, I’ve got a bit of a tear going on here now.”
Alison replied: "28 years on the show, I’m not surprised!" before asking: "When you watch that back does it bring back lovely memories?" But the host noticed that their guest appeared emotional and reached out to grab his knee as she exclaimed: “Oh you’re really crying, really getting emotional.”

"Well, it does trigger all that wonderful emotion that you had when you actually shot the scenes," Alan replied. "Jackie and I you know we’ve busted up and got back together, we’ve busted up and got back together and every time the tears are very real, they feel real and the moment feels real," said the soap star, as he recalled memories of working with his on-screen wife, played by Jackie Woodburne.
Following his appearance, some fans of the Channel 5 soap, rushed to social media to share their thoughts on Alan's appearance. One person said: "I didn't recognise 'Dr Karl Kennedy'. Omg."
Meanwhile, one fan hit back about comments regarding Alan's appearance: "Seeing some of the rude and ignorant comments in regards to Alan Fletcher's appearance, he has alopecia #thismorning." Back in May, Alan addressed his hair loss after fans shared concern over his health.
Another person simply said: "On this morning the legend who is Dr Karl Kennedy aka the amazingly talented Alan Fletcher."
Earlier this year, Channel 5 confirmed that Neighbours would be coming to an end in 2022. At the time, the show’s Twitter account confirmed the news: "We are so sorry to say that after nearly 37 years and almost 9,000 episodes broadcast we have to confirm that Neighbours will cease production in June."
Neighbours continues on Channel 5 on weekdays at 6pm
