Neighbourhoods in Ayrshire without water as temperatures plummet

Families in the Auchinleck and Cumnock areas of Ayrshire are currently without water.

Ayrshire Live has learned that the sub zero temperatures have affected large swathes of the water network across the country.

And it seems that broken pipes and valves on the network has left some neighbourhoods either with a loss of water altogether, or a low pressure supply.

We can reveal that the problem has affected the KA18 postcode area of Cumnock- and in parts of Auchinleck.

Scottish Water said on social media: “Customers in Cumnock (KA18) may be experiencing an interruption to water supplies due to a frozen valve on the water network.

“Our teams are now on-site preparing to carry out remedial works to restore customer supplies as soon as possible this morning.”

In an update Scottish Water said the problem in Cumnock was down to a broken valve.

They said: “We have now identified the cause of the interruption to water supply affecting customers in Cumnock.

“A frozen valve has been identified and our teams are now on-site to carry out remedial works and start to return supplies to normal.

“Please be aware that you may experience no water supply or low/intermittent water pressure. You may also experience discoloured water.

“At present we expect to complete the work in a timeframe which means we do not plan to provide bottled water at distribution locations.”
