Neighbour punched at least 20 times in Bulwell attack left in major trauma unit

Two sisters and an ex-partner launched a vicious attack on a former friend and neighbour in Bulwell. The victim, who was punched at least 20 times by the man in the group, was left with bruising and swelling to her face, complex multiple facial fractures and possible rib fractures as she was punched, kicked and dragged along in the street.

Nottingham Crown Court heard on Friday (September 9) she was admitted to a hospital's major trauma unit for pain relief, and reported having blurry vision to her right eye, and had a plate fitted to repair her face. She spent a week in hospital before discharge and now complains of short-term memory loss, dizzy spells, nerve damage, and how "it's agony" to eat on one side of her mouth.

"Looking back, I am angry. We all used to be friends. I am upset they took this form of action," her statement read. "It's still hanging over my head. I want some closure to the incident. I want them to be dealt with appropriately and however the judge sees fit."

The catalyst to the violence was Gemma Plaskett throwing a mixture of water and bleach at her neighbour's friend, who had been waiting in Bancroft Street, Bulwell, for a takeaway to arrive.

Plaskett then attacked her neighbour and was joined by her now ex-partner Arran Hamilton and Gemma Plaskett's sister, Claire Plaskett. The victim said Hamilton, 34, of Poppyfields, Marehay, Ripley, punched her at least 20 times and lifted his foot like a boot kicking a football.

Shannon English, representing Gemma Plaskett, said it was accepted by her client that she delivered blows and she went too far. Hamilton accepted he had punched and kicked the woman, the court heard.

Claire Plaskett, 36, of Longmead Drive, Arnold, accepted she lost her temper and joined in, said Andrew Wesley, mitigating for her. All three pleaded guilty at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday, May 3, to causing grievous bodily harm and received a suspended sentence of two years and 25 rehabilitation activity days.

Gemma Plaskett, aged 34, from Bancroft Street, Bulwell, was given a six-month concurrent sentence, also suspended, for assault causing bodily harm after throwing the bleach mixture into the first woman's face, which went into her eye, and discoloured her clothes on November 25, 2021.

Recorder Balraij Bhatia said there was clearly a history in relation to the background as far as Gemma Plaskett and the GBH victim were concerned. "Clearly there was a friendship there that turned sour," he said.
