Neeraj Chopra is excellence personified! PM Narendra Modi hails India's javelin star after second successive Olympic medal

NEW DELHI: As Neeraj Chopra claimed his second Olympic medal at the Paris Games on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in congratulating the star Indian javelin thrower for his silver.

While Neeraj took the silver, Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem bagged gold with a new Games record of 92.97m.

Neeraj took the silver with his season's best effort of 89.45 metres becoming India's first track-and-field athlete to win two Olympic medals.

With the silver on Thursday, Neeraj became the fourth Indian athlete to clinch two Olympic medals in individual sport.

Shuttler PV Sindhu (one silver, one bronze), wrestler Sushil Kumar (one silver, one bronze) and shooter Manu Bhaker (two bronze) have won two Olympic medals each post Independence.
