NEW DELHI: Reigning Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra will train in South Africa’s Potchefstroom in his bid to defend his title at the Paris Games 2024. TOI has learnt that Neeraj submitted a proposal under the Sports Authority of India’s (SAI) Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) to train at the North-West University in Potchefstroom from December 5, 2023, to February 29, 2024, for a period of 85 days before shifting his base to Europe.
The Mission Olympic Cell (MOC), which met earlier this week, has approved his proposal worth Rs 27.67 lakh. He will be accompanied by his coach and biomechanics expert, Dr Klaus Bartonietz, and physiotherapist Ishaan Marwaha.
