'Need to disappear' - Former Sunderland striker calls on co-ownership duo to leave

Former Sunderland striker Kevin Kyle has called on Black Cats co-owners Stewart Donald and Charlie Methven to leave the club. According to reports, both Donald and Methven could be on the verge of leaving the Stadium of Light in the coming weeks after reportedly accepting a bid to sell their shares, though this will require EFL approval.

Donald currently owns a 34 per cent stake in Sunderland, while Methven has just a five per cent share. New owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus is the majority shareholder at 41 per cent, while Juan Sartori owns the final 20 per cent.

And Kyle has claimed that Sunderland need to ‘get rid’ of both Donald and Methven as soon as possible, before then calling on supporters to continue to get behind Louis-Dreyfus – the main man at the helm.

Via Sunderland Echo, he said: “Well, obviously I don’t try and read too much into the political side of football. But having done a bit of digging and a bit of research, these two need to disappear because I understand that in business and life that you need to make money.

“They are there to take the passion that the fans have forward. They like to think they can but they won’t. Get rid of them and back the other boy [Kyril Louis-Dreyfus] try and get someone in to support him and hopefully Sunderland can try and make the right choices and end up back in the holy grail of the Premier League.

“Once they get there, when they get there, do things a bit better than they have done in the past. We can’t keep going up and down, up and down.”
