Nearly a third of Bristolians don't know the Clifton Suspension Bridge is in Bristol

The Clifton Suspension Bridge is easily one of Bristol's most significant landmarks, but it turns out a (slightly worrying) number of us don't even know it's in our city.

Shocking new data shows that 30 percent of Bristolians surveyed don't know the suspension bridge is right on our doorstep, with 41 percent of Brits not knowing where it is, either.

According to JackpotJoy, eight percent of Bristolians asked think the iconic bridge is in the Brecon Beacons in Wales, and a further six percent think it's in Cornwall - despite its location being in its name.

A poll of 2,000 UK adults found that tens of thousands of Brits ask Google where the UK’s top landmarks can be found each month, with around 170 monthly searches for 'Where is the Clifton Suspension Bridge?' As well as only three-in-five (59 percent) Brits knowing where the Clifton Suspension Bridge is, nearly half of those surveyed said they have no idea where Stonehenge is located.

Perhaps more worryingly, only one-in-seven (15 percent) of Brits asked are unaware that Buckingham Palace or Big Ben are in London. One-in-ten aren’t aware that Tower Bridge is in London either.

Just over half of those surveyed knew that the Giant’s Causeway is located in Northern Ireland. More than one in twenty placed it in Bristol instead, maybe getting it confused with Cribbs Causeway.

Alex Fagelson of Jackpotjoy said: “Looking at our survey results, we were surprised that many Brits don’t know where some of the country’s most famous attractions are. While it may be wise to brush up on our geography knowledge, there’s no better way to do this than heading out to see these attractions in the flesh. As summer approaches we can’t think of a better excuse for a fun day out!”
