Nearly 95% adult population in Karnataka has been fully inoculated

BENGALURU: Karnataka, as of Thursday, has inoculated 94% of the adult population with two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, having administered more than 9. 1 crore doses to more than 4. 8 crore people eligible in this category.

Just last week, the state had achieved another vaccination milestone, having covered 100% of t he eligible adult population with one dose.

As per data released on Thursday, Karnataka has administered more than 9. 4 crore doses, including precautionary shots for senior citizens, healthcare and frontline workers, and the first dose for teenagers (15-17 years). Of these, more than 9. 1 crore have been given to the adult population.

As of Sunday (January 23), t he state had covered 85% of t he target population with both doses. As per data made public by health minister K Sudhakar, there were only three districts (Kalaburagi, Raichur and Yadgir) that had not touched the 80% mark, while seven other districts had covered between 80% and 85% and the rest had crossed the 85% mark.

Most districts, as of Thursday, had touched the 90% mark, and officials from the health department said that the state is expected to touch 100% by the end of February. Going by data for the past few days, the state has been administering around 1. 9 lakh doses each day, including precautionary doses and shots for teenagers. And, a bulk of the doses administered each day are still going to the adult population.

Further, data from the state health department shows

vaccination coverage of teenagers (15-17 years) has also gained pace with more than 69% of the targeted 31. 7-lakh people having been given one dose already. By the end of Thursday, more than 22 lakh teenagers had been given the first dose, including more than three lakh in Bengaluru — including BBMP and Bengaluru Urban areas — and nearly 1. 9 lakh in Belagavi.

And, the government has given nearly 6. 2 lakh jabs of precautionary doses to healthcare workers (HCWs), frontline workers (FLWs) and seniors (more than 60 years old).

While more than 2. 5 lakh HCWs have taken this shot, 94,992 FLWs and more than 2. 6 seniors have taken the precautionary jab.
