Nearly 400 people took part in a Santa Stair Climb at Canada Square, Canary Wharf, to raise awareness about the cost of living crisis and food poverty.
Wearing green Santa t-shirts and hats, 383 participants took part in the challenge to help raise money for London-based food redistribution charity, The Felix Project.
Organised by the charity in partnership with Canary Wharf group, The Santa Stair Climb took place on Sunday, where people climbed 48 floors and completed 1,031 steps up the skyscraper.
Members of the public, the staff from many of the large companies based at Canary Wharf, including Morgan Stanley, were joined by Charlotte Hill OBE CEO of the Felix Project, Canary Wharf CEO Shobi Khan and The Felix Project's founder Justin Byam Shaw.
Mr Shaw, who also participated in the challenge and completed the climb in eight minutes, said: "It was fantastic to take part in the first challenge, especially with so many people all supporting The Felix Project and what we do. Crossing the finish line was both satisfying and moving for me.”
"We know 1 in 4 working parents in London are regularly struggling to afford to feed their families, so event like this are vital to help us raise much needed funds and ensure we can be there to feed more of London's hungry this Christmas."
The Felix Project, a benificiary of the Standard’s Food for London now campaign, aims to deliver 870,000 meals to Londoners in need this winter. They said it hopes the event will raise thousands for the charity, which costs over £10milllion a year to run.
The number of Londoners living in food poverty continues to rise over the years, with now 28 percent of the population living under poverty, according to London datastore.
In 2022 The Felix Project saved over 12,100 tonnes of food and delivered the equivalent of over 29M meals.
