Near-extinct parrot 'under threat' from mining project

The expansion of a major coal mine would destroy habitat critical to the survival of the near-extinct swift parrot, with any revegetation efforts too slow to help the endangered bird, an ecologist has warned.

Mining giant Whitehaven is seeking approval to extend the life of its Maules Creek open-cut coal mine, near Boggabri in northern NSW, until 2044.
