Neal Maupay felt the wrath of Tony Bellew after the Marseille striker aimed a dig at Everton on Sunday night.
Bellew is a lifelong Toffees fan and did not take too kindly to Maupay’s post on X (formerly Twitter) about the Merseysiders 2-0 loss to Nottingham Forest.
Maupay’s controversial comments saw the striker hit with a series of angry words in retaliation. And Bellew delivered arguably the knockout blow.
The former British boxing star was not afraid to make his feelings known against the striker. Amazingly, Maupay is still contracted to the Premier League side.
His relationship with the club is clearly beyond repair and the former France U21 star will almost certainly leave Goodison Park in 2025. The Olympians actually have an obligation to sign Maupay for £6 million.
That is just as well as a chance meeting between Bellew and Maupay could get messy. And there is likely only one outcome if the two were to ever cross paths.
Whenever I’m having a bad day I just check the Everton score and smile 🙂

Neal Maupay Post Angers Everton Supporter Tony Bellew
The Everton vs Nottingham Forest highlights provide all the key moments from Sunday’s clash at Goodison Park. However, Neal Maupay’s social media actions generated the bigger talking point from the Toffees perspective.
After Forest’s 2-0 win which moved them up to second in the table, Maupay posted: ‘Whenever I’m having a bad day I just check the Everton score and smile.’
Naturally, hundreds of users were quick to share their thoughts on Maupay’s controversial post. Bellew had the sharpest response, calling the Frenchman a ‘P***k!’
The post from Maupay is made even more astonishing as he is still contracted to the club. A small fact that former Swansea star and Everton supporter Lee Trundle pointed out.
The 48-year-old wrote: ‘You played for the club mate, have a bit of respect as an ex player. Speaking like that your part of the problem.’

Neal Maupay’s Everton Career
Many outside of Everton will perhaps be wondering why Neal Maupay has such hatred for the club. And in turn, why the Goodison Park faithful aren’t keen on the French striker.
After moving to England in 2017 and starring for Brentford and Brighton, Maupay earned a move to the Toffees in the summer of 2022.
Much was expected of Maupay but his lacklustre performances and poor goal return saw his relationship with supporters deteriorate quite quickly.
A loan move back to the Bees materialised at the start of the 2023/24 campaign whereby Maupay chipped in with six top-flight goals in 29 appearances.
That was five more strikes than the 28-year-old managed in all competitions on Merseyside. In the summer of 2024, Maupay celebrated his loan move to Marseille by referencing Andy Dufresne from Shawshank Redemption.
The character, played by Tim Robbins, celebrates his escape from prison after 19 years whereby he was wrongfully incarcerated. Of course, this didn’t bode well with Toffees fans.
