Ndombele Lyon absence explained, Parrott and Clarke joy, John concern - Tottenham loan latest

It has been a very good few days for Tottenham Hotspur.

Starting the week off in style with a convincing 5-0 win over Everton at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to up the pressure on their top-four rivals, a number of the club's loan players have also enjoyed a lot of success over the past week or so.

With one Tottenham star reaching the final of a domestic competition, three loanees were on the scoresheet for their respective clubs.

Alfie Whiteman was the latest to depart earlier this month after returning to Sweden to link up with Degerfors once again. The shot-stopper will play friendlies and enjoy a pre-season before this year's Allsvenskan campaign begins at the start of April.

So how exactly did the rest of Spurs loanees get on over the past week? football.london takes a look.

Tanguy Ndombele (Lyon)

Ndombele was absent from the Lyon squad last Friday for their comfortable 4-1 win away at struggling Lorient.

A regular in the side prior to then, the Frenchman was suffering from muscle pain and that resulted in Peter Bosz having to do without him for the Ligue 1 clash.

The midfielder has since recovered and is part of their squad for Wednesday's Europa League Round of 16 tie against Porto in Portugal.

Making four appearances for the French side since his return to the Groupama Stadium on transfer deadline day, the 25-year-old has one assist to his name so far.

Lyon return to Ligue 1 action on Sunday against Rennes, a team Ndombele has already faced this season having played against them for Spurs in the Europa Conference League.

Bryan Gil (Valencia)

Gil has enjoyed quite the week at Valencia after helping his loan club reach the final of the Copa del Rey.

All square at 1-1 heading into their second leg semi-final clash against Athletic Bilbao, Valencia secured a 1-0 win to spark wild scenes both inside and outside the Mestalla.

Gil and his teammates joined the fans after the game to celebrate their success and it resulted in the thousands of supporters who had gathered in the streets chanting for the Spurs ace to remain at the club.

Having started against Bilbao in midweek, the Spain international was given the final 17 minutes off the bench in Saturday's 3-1 win over Granada as they made it three wins on the spin in all competitions.

Valencia travel to Getafe on Saturday afternoon in their next league fixture.

Giovani Lo Celso (Villarreal)

It wasn't a good week for Lo Celso and Villarreal as they slipped to a 1-0 defeat against Osasuna.

Needing the points to up the pressure on their Champions League rivals, Ezequiel Avila netted the only goal of the contest in the 63rd minute.

Lo Celso played 77 minutes in Pamplona but couldn't help his team find the breakthrough as they only managed just the one shot on target.

Pape Matar Sarr (Mez)

Sarr's up and down past few months continued last weekend as Metz fell to a 1-0 defeat against Saint-Etienne.

Playing the full game the previous week in their 0-0 draw with Nantes, the Senegal international was back on the bench at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard as the hosts claimed all three points to keep Metz in the relegation zone.

The Tottenham midfielder was given game time, however, as he came on in the 65th minute for Boubacar Traore.

Starting in 14 of his 22 league appearances in 2021/22, he will be hoping for more luck on Sunday when Metz take on Lens.

Cameron Carter-Vickers (Celtic)

Celtic maintained their three-point lead over Rangers at the summit of the Scottish Premiership with two victories last week.

Victorious against St Mirren in their first encounter as they ran out 2-0 winners at Celtic Park, Carter-Vickers managed to grab his third goal of the season with an impressive volley from close range to get his team up and running.

His goal certainly impressed Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou.

“It was good, sometimes in games like this a set piece with someone who doesn’t normally score can step up," he told Celtic's official website after the win.

“I thought Cameron and Carl [Starfelt] were outstanding today. They had a lot of the ball and it wasn’t easy to find gaps but they also stayed disciplined in their output.

“It was great to see Cameron get his reward and that set us on our way to create more chances and take further control.”

The Scottish giants then recorded their first win at Livingston since 2007 at the weekend as they clinched a 3-1 victory.

Playing the full 90 minutes in all 25 of his league appearances for Celtic this season, Carter-Vickers, who is reportedly interesting a number of Premier League clubs, has three goals and one assist from 36 games this term.

Troy Parrott (MK Dons)

What a week it has been for Parrott and MK Dons.

Picking up a huge three points last Saturday as they won 2-1 away at League One leaders Rotherham, MK made it five straight wins in the league with a 3-1 victory over Cheltenham Town.

Parrott was influential against the Robins as he netted a double to end his long goal drought after failing to find the net since the end of October.

Heading in the opener with 26 minutes on the clock, the striker doubled his tally five minutes from time with an angled drive that gave Owen Evans no chance in the Cheltenham goal.

Reflecting on the win after the game, MK Dons boss Liam Manning was full of praise for the young striker.

“It was thoroughly deserved. He has worked so hard for the team recently. It's great to see him get the goals tonight," he said (via MK Citizen).

“We've been consistent with him, telling him to keep doing what he's doing. He wants to contribute and score goals, but it's so much more than that. The front players set the tone defensively for us, and the quality he has and the way he works, the goals will come.”

Parrott also spoke after the game and stated he was "buzzing" after finally getting amongst the goals once again.

"I've been getting a lot of support from the fans, the gaffer and the boys. Seeing how happy everyone was to see me score was overwhelming really," explained the striker (via MK Citizen).

"They show so much confidence in me and I cannot ask for much more. Hopefully it continues now.

“I've had a lot of chances to score and it hasn't come but I'm buzzing tonight.

“For my confidence, it's massive. The second goal I didn't even have to think about it, I just hit it and it went in. It's a feeling that never gets old, especially going so long without a goal. You could see what it meant to me.”

Kion Etete (Cheltenham Town)

Etete missed out on a reunion with fellow Tottenham player Parrott at Stadium MK on Tuesday evening as he was absent through injury.

Playing 77 minutes at the weekend in the Robins' 4-0 win over Doncaster Rovers, the frontman did not make the trip to Milton Keynes due to an ankle issue.

"He felt his ankle again, so it’s a case of having to manage him," said manager Michael Duff after the 3-1 defeat, as reported by Gloucestershire Live.

"He is a young lad, everyone has seen how important he is to us, but we can’t afford to break him. Hopefully he’ll be available for Saturday."

Hitting two goals in eight games for Cheltenham since his loan switch in January, Etete will have his fingers crossed that he can return on Saturday when his team travel to Morecambe.

Jack Clarke (Sunderland)

Clarke was handed a start in Sunderland's League One encounter against Fleetwood Town on Tuesday evening after four successive appearances off the bench.

The winger did manage to play the full game for the first time in his Sunderland loan spell and he finished the game in style with a fine goal to wrap up a 3-1 win.

Driving towards area and then darting inside to fashion an opening, Clarke hit an unstoppable effort that arrowed into the corner and duly wheeled off to celebrate a crucial win in the promotion race.

He earned a seven in the Sunderland Echo's player ratings with the review: "Wasteful on the ball through much of the first half but his persistence paid off in the second with a big role in the first goal. His own effort to secure the win was an absolute stunner."

Clarke will now be looking to really kick on in what remains of the season as the Black Cats look to win promotion to the Championship.

Nile John (Charlton Athletic)

John is still waiting to make his senior debut for Charlton following his January loan move from Tottenham.

The 19-year-old midfielder has been an unused substitute on the bench in four of the past five matches for the Addicks and his lack of action won't exactly have gone down well with his parent club.

Charlton travel to Accrington Stanley on Saturday as they look for their first league win since the start of February.

Kacper Kurylowicz (Potters Bar Town)

The goalkeeper has headed out on loan to non-league side Potters Bar Town, who play in the Isthmian Premier League.

The 20-year-old was an unused substitute on Tuesday evening as his loan club lost 2-1 against Hornchurch.
