MUMBAI: Nationalist Congress Party or NCP leader and All India Ulema Board's Wakf Wing chief Saleem Sarang has said that "Muslim community would be forced to come to the streets like the Marathas and Dhangars if the state government does not restore the 5% quota in education.
This decision could not have come at a worse time. The threat comes at a time Maratha community is demanding reservation and the Dhangar community wants a change in category from Nomadic Tribes (C) to Scheduled Tribes. The then Congress-NCP government in 2014 had given 5% quota to Muslims in education and jobs Subsequently the Bombay High Court allowed the 5% quota to Muslims in education. The community has been pressing for the implementation of the High Court order, but in vain. The Muslim community, said Sarang, had come under the umbrella of All India Ulema Board (AIUB) and reiterated their demand for the 5% quota in education.
