Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama enjoyed his best NBA game to date Thursday night, scoring a career-high 38 points on 15-of-26 shooting from the floor with 10 rebounds and two blocks in San Antonio’s 132–121 road win over the Suns.
It wasn’t a perfect outing for San Antonio as a whole. The Spurs led by as many as 27 points before the Suns came all the way back to tie the game at 116. However, Wembanyama came through when his team needed him the most. The Spurs rookie single-handedly outscored the Suns 10–5 in the final 4:15 of regulation to put the game away.
Wembanyama has become must-see TV, and naturally there were plenty of pithy reactions to the rookie’s breakout night by fans and media alike. Here are some of the best social media posts about Wembanyama’s big outing.
I’m gonna wander around LA right now in the dark in my slippers trying to process what just happened with Wemby.

Wembanyama is so good i dont even feel like i have to lie about cancelling plans anymore. All the usual suspects: Not feeling well, Car broke down, Work thing came up … listen, Wemby is on. Sorry. And if they dont understand then i guess ill just see you in hell.

That rocker step into a pull-up three going to his left is unfair: pic.twitter.com/grss86slfM

- Only two other teenagers have posted 38P/10R/2B in NBA history: LeBron James and Kevin Durant.
If I were an NBA team I would simply defend Victor Wembanyama with a player who's actually three players stacked on top of one another under one cartoonishly long jersey

The last minute of the first half for Victor Wembanyama just showed the confidence. Horns action, high low and he somehow gets one up. Miss. Comes back with a pick and pop 3 and a pull up 3 since no one is guarding him. pic.twitter.com/2AYfd3PrAz

Victor Wembanyama vs Devin Booker.

• Booker falls running back in transition
• Booker upset, doesn't even look at the ball & just wants a good shove to get back at Vic
• Wemby doesn't care, still gets the off-reb effortlessly

The difference is that David Robinson was 24 as a rookie, because he served in the Navy first. But Victor is 19 because he rose to the rank of Admiral in the French Navy by age 17, commanding the fleet to decisive victories over the British along the way. https://t.co/U8gYdmoWep

I don’t want to be the clueless fan at his first basketball game who says things like, “Why don’t they just throw it to the tall guy every time?”

But more and more, I’m starting to think the Spurs could just throw it to the tall guy every time.
