Without several key players, including Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins, the short-handed Golden State Warriors were tasked with stopping a season-high four-game slide on Monday against the reigning Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets.
With only nine players available, the Warriors pushed the Nuggets down to the wire with a gritty effort behind Jordan Poole and rookie Moses Moody.
Poole led the Warriors with 32 points on 11-of-19 shooting from the field with seven assists, three boards and a block in 34 minutes for the Warriors. Poole did his best Splash Brother impersonation with eight triples on 12 attempts from beyond the arc.
Moody notched a career-high 30 points on 10-of-23 shooting from the floor with three rebounds, an assist and a steal in 36 minutes. At 19-years-old, Moody set a new franchise record for most points by a teenager in a single game.
Despite Moody, Poole and double-figure scoring efforts from three other players, the gritty performance wasn’t enough to surge past the Nuggets to snap the Warriors’ losing streak.
Jokic registered a triple-double with 32 points on 12-of-17 shooting from the field with 15 boards and 13 assists against the Warriors to lead the Nuggets to a 131-124 victory.
After the Warriors dropped their fifth consecutive loss, the NBA Twitter community chimed in with different reactions. Here’s what fans and analysts were saying on Monday night.
