NBA Players Name Most Overrated, Underrated Peers in Anonymous Survey

After conducting an anonymous poll of 108 NBA players, The Athletic compiled an interesting list featuring respondents’ picks for the most overrated and underrated players in the league.

Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young interestingly topped the list as the most overrated player despite averaging 26.2 points and 10.2 assists per game this season. The dynamic scoring threat pulled in 14.8% of the vote.

Following the electric point guard on the overrated list were Knicks power forward Julius Randle (7.4%), Toronto’s Pascal Siakam (7.4%), Miami’s Jimmy Butler (5.6%) and Minnesota’s Rudy Gobert (5.6%).

On the flip side, topping the list of most underrated players was Milwaukee’s Jrue Holiday.

“What he does on a night-in, night-out basis on both ends of the court, and probably goes by a little bit unnoticed under the spotlight of Giannis,” one player told The Athletic.

Closely following Holliday, was Brooklyn’s Mikal Bridges, Minnesota’s Jayden McDaniels, Boston’s Jaylen Brown and Sacramento’s De’Aaron Fox. Not surprisingly, every player on this list played an integral part in his team qualifying for the 2023 playoffs.

Among the other questions posed involved league MVP honors, which went to Philadelphia’s Joel Embiid over Denver’s Nikola Jokić.

A highly debated argument involving who is the greatest player of all time resulted with Michael Jordan (58.3%) topping the list ahead of LeBron James (33%) and Kobe Bryant (6.8%).
