With free agency set to officially begin on Friday, we’re in the period of relative calm before the storm. But that didn’t stop Kyrie Irving from gifting NBA fans with a juicy bit of news ahead of all the player movement action.
Irving, who’s an unrestricted free agent, will reportedly meet with the Suns on Friday, according to Bleacher Report‘s Chris Haynes. The notion of Irving joining an already star-studded roster that includes his former Nets teammate Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal and Devin Booker seems difficult to imagine—particularly given the high salaries of all the players already on Phoenix’s roster. As things stand now, the Suns would only be able to offer Irving a veteran minimum contract, likely necessitating a sign-and-trade.
But even if Irving the chances that signs with Phoenix are remote, that didn’t stop NBA Twitter from turning the report into fodder for some truly funny jokes.
