Just one day removed from a report that the NBA will consider penalizing flopping, a separate report has emerged indicating that the league is looking to amend its existing coach’s challenge rules as well, according to a report from Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report.
Per Haynes’s report, the NBA’s Competition Committee is in serious discussions on a rule change that would award a team a second and final challenge if an initial coach’s challenge is successful. The league will test the rule in Summer League play, and implement the change beginning next season if all goes well.
The coach’s challenge rule generally has been well received across the NBA, and the replay process in most cases has been relatively swift.
This could be the second key in-game rule change for next season, in addition to the proposed rule on flopping, in which a team would be issued a technical foul when a flop is assessed by an official.
