The Boston Celtics made the trip to the Manhattan Mecca that is the Madison Square Garden home of the New York Knicks to play the second half of a back-to-back without big man Al Horford, taking the night off while resting a stiff back. Boston had no issues sans the Florida alum with a record-setting night from beyond the arc for the Celtics, who shot 27-of-51 from deep against the Knicks on Saturday night.
It was enough to overcome New York’s dominance on the boards and hand the team a 133-118 victory, and Boston making each and every one of their dozen attempts at the charity stripe did not hurt either.
Let’s take a look at what NBA and Celtics Twitter had to say about the win, which puts Boston’s record at 6-3, good enough for sole possession fo third place in the league’s Eastern Conference.
First quarter
Back-to-back 3s from Jaylen Brown & Jayson Tatum, Celtics ahead 6-0

Joe Mazzulla likes threes, and the Celtics have been delivering from distance.
15 points, five threes for Boston early.

Someone just told me you can try to score from inside the perimeter and don't have to shoot only 3-point shots. Wild if true.
— Max Lederman (@Max_Lederman) November 5, 2022
Is Evan Fournier still a Celtics killer? Drills a tough three after picking up his dribble. 32-29 Boston entering the second quarter.

Already 15 assists on 22 buckets for the Celtics. Ya love to see this type of ball movement and trust.

Luke Kornet not with the team tonight for personal reasons. That’s why we haven’t seen him on the floor yet. #Celtics

How did Marcus Smart get all the way in the air to almost block a Julius Randle layup when he was literally laying on the ground?
— Jared Weiss (@JaredWeissNBA) November 6, 2022
Back-to-back 3s from Jaylen Brown, he's keeping the Celtics ahead right now as the Knicks are heating up…
Barrett drained a 3 in response to Jaylen & now it's a two-point game (65-63)
— Josue Pavón (@Joe_Sway) November 6, 2022
Great play by Derrick White to fly in and corral an offensive rebound and putback all in one movement to put Boston in front 67-66 at half.
27 of Boston’s 46 shots came from 3.
Jaylen Brown has 21 for the Celtics.
RJ Barrett and Julius Randle each have 18 for New York.

Third quarter
Jalen Brunson is so nice
— Jack Simone (@JackSimoneNBA) November 6, 2022
9th assist for Marcus Smart…most by a Celtic this year.
Still 9:20 left in the 3rd quarter.
His career-high is 13.
— Sean Grande (@SeanGrandePBP) November 6, 2022
Malcolm Brogdon continues to be exactly what the Celtics needed in this role as their first guard off the bench. Comes in and immediately gives them a jolt on offense. Up to 9 points and 3 assists in 11 minutes.
— Tim Bontemps (@TimBontemps) November 6, 2022
A guy in a John Starks jersey just banked in a half court shot to win a Kia and MSG just erupted in similar fashion to when the Knicks beat the Celtics to open last season.

Noah Vonleh with the putback and the corner 3! Why can't the Knicks get guys like that?

Celtics getting nice outings out of the third and fourth string centers tonight.
— Brian Robb (@BrianTRobb) November 6, 2022
Jayson Tatum just knocked down the Celtics 25th three of the night.
They've tied the franchise record with 4:20 to play in New York.
— Sean Grande (@SeanGrandePBP) November 6, 2022
And now they have a new franchise record. https://t.co/GpepMts6XC

Jaylen Brown with the "No! No! Yes!" shot
— Matt John (@MattJohnNBA) November 6, 2022
Tatum made 1st Team All NBA and was the best player on a Finals team and still came back a clearly better player
— Ryan Bernardoni (@dangercart) November 6, 2022
After review, the ruling on the floor is a flagrant-1 foul on Julius Randle for hitting Grant Williams.
Another W for Joey, Williams hits both FTs, Celtics up 130-116
