NBA All-Star Has High Praise for Bronny James After USC Commitment

In his lone season at USC, six-time NBA All-Star DeMar DeRozan guided the Trojans to the program’s only conference tournament championship as a one-and-done freshman. Now, he has high hopes for the latest top-flight recruit heading to his alma mater: Bronny James.

Speaking as a guest on Clippers star Paul George’s podcast, DeRozan talked about Bronny’s commitment to the Trojans and what type of boost Bronny will bring to a program that’s long lived in the shadow of inter-city rival UCLA.

“When I went there, I always used to wonder, ‘Man, why we don’t get more attention?’ … Basketball-wise, you just need that big name to come there to bring that attention in. He’s the perfect person for that,” DeRozan said. “I think, the way he comes in, the way he’s gonna handle it, the attention he’s gonna bring and the player that he is—I think it’s going to push 'SC to another level that we haven’t seen.”

Bronny, the oldest son of LeBron James, committed to USC earlier this month, joining fellow McDonald’s All-American Isaiah Collier as part of a highly-touted recruiting class. In addition to DeRozan’s praise, George also spoke highly of Bronny’s talent and predicted he’d have success in the college game.

“He’s got all the s--- that [LeBron James] got: high IQ, he’s athletic, he makes the right plays … I was amazed,” George said. “He’s got the personality, the charisma, he’s got the humbleness. ‘SC really got a good one.”
