NBA All-Star Weekend is coming up in Indianapolis, and that means the return of one of everyone’s favorite festivities: the annual 3-Point Contest.
The 2024 edition is set for Saturday night with the broadcast beginning at 8 p.m. The 3-Point Contest will be the second event of the night following the Skills Challenge. As with all the events, it will be held inside Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indianapolis.
A total of eight NBA players have been selected to participate in this year’s 3-Point Challenge, and the field includes the defending champion, Milwaukee Bucks point guard Damian Lillard.
Here’s the full field of competitors that will challenge Lillard for the three-point crown on Saturday night, plus the rules and format:
Malik Beasley - Milwaukee Bucks
Jalen Brunson - New York Knicks
Tyrese Haliburton - Indiana Pacers
Damian Lillard - Milwaukee Bucks (Defending Champion)
Lauri Markkanen - Utah Jazz
Donovan Mitchell - Cleveland Cavaliers
Karl-Anthony Towns - Minnesota Timberwolves
Trae Young - Atlanta Hawks
The rules and format
Players will have a minute and 10 seconds to hit as many of the 27 possible three-point shots as they can in the time allotted. Those balls are divided into five racks around the arc, with each shot counting as one point … but then there are special “money” balls worth two.
The fifth rack will have all money balls, and there are two extra balls at “Starry range” worth three points.
The top three players from the first round advance and compete in the final round. If there’s a tie, there will be a 30-second tiebreaker in the first, and a full 70-secon tiebreaker in the final round.
