In a recent incident, a Navy sailor attempted to access President Joe Biden's medical records earlier this year. Fortunately, the Pentagon has confirmed that no information was compromised during this incident.
The Navy disclosed that the sailor, who was assigned to Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command, conducted a search for the name 'Joseph Biden' within the military's health care system known as Genesis. The Navy stated that the sailor's actions were driven by curiosity.
Following the breach of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), a co-worker reported the incident. The Naval Criminal Investigative Service conducted an investigation and determined that the record accessed by the sailor was not the electronic record of the President of the United States.
Pentagon press secretary, Air Force Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder, confirmed that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin was notified of the incident in February, as was the White House.
An unnamed defense official revealed that the sailor involved in the incident faced administrative discipline and remains in the Navy. The attempted breach was initially brought to light by CBS.
