US Navy sailor Jaimie Bethea, 21, died by suicide aboard the USS Fort Lauderdale around a month before the ship returned to Norfolk, Virginia, from an 11-month deployment to the US Fourth Fleet area of operations.

Her family is seeking answers about the support available to sailors on prolonged deployments. Bethea's sister said the Navy had extended the ship's return repeatedly, while a close friend said the sailor had struggled to obtain prescribed medication consistently at sea.
