Nature’s Greatest Workhorse: Why Tessa Thompson’s Sculptural Vase Is the Only Accessory Your Modern Living Space Truly Needs

Tessa Thompson.

Natural materials are one of the best additions to any space to make it feel warm, lived-in, and visually appealing. Even the most minimalist of areas can benefit from greenery and textures found in the natural world, as proven by Tessa Thompson.

The actor shared a snap of her home on her Instagram page, and we were struck by her curved, wood lounge area, which houses a simple, ceramic vase.

The beauty of this vase is in its simplicity; the perfectly imperfect clay, and the dainty flowers inside the vessel all bring life to the sleek, mid-century style space. It's all the proof we need to believe that ceramic vases (and natural materials generally) are a must-have for practically any room in the home. To get her look, I love this smooth, black vase from Wayfair; however, you can't go wrong with any neutral.

According to design experts, natural decor is a classic design approach in part because it is a truly versatile aesthetic. 'Nature-inspired home decor has an enduring appeal and charm that transcends interior design trends and seasons, bringing a sense of tranquility and balance into any living space,' Westchester-based designer Nina Lichtentstein explains.

'By integrating elements of the natural world into your home, you create an environment that not only looks beautiful but also promotes well-being and serenity.'

She continues, 'One of the primary benefits of nature-inspired decor is its ability to evoke a calming atmosphere. Natural materials and colors can reduce stress and enhance relaxation, making your home a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Additionally, incorporating nature into your home decor can improve air quality and create a more harmonious living environment, contributing to overall health and happiness.'

Along with ceramic vases, Nina encourages experimenting with different materials for a visually diverse room. 'Stone countertops and accents, geodes, ceramic vases, and clay pottery introduce earthy elements into your decor,' she says. 'These materials add texture and depth, creating a grounded, organic feel.' I've never felt more inspired to pare back my vase styling. Won't you join me?
