The latest update from Nato suggests that Ukraine could be close to winning the war against Russia which began on February 24, 2022.
In its latest intelligence update, the Ministry of Defence said the Russian campaign in the east of Ukraine has “lost momentum” and was “significantly behind schedule”.
Speaking today, Foreign UK Secretary Liz Truss said it was essential to maintain support to help Ukraine “push Russia out”.

She said in a statement: “Putin must face a sustained defeat in Ukraine, Russia must be contained and such aggression must never happen again.
“Ukraine’s security must come from it being able to defend itself. Allies must support Ukraine’s move to Nato-standard equipment, immediately providing artillery, training, and the required expertise.”
Nato deputy secretary-general Mircea Geoana then said the Ukrainians are now in a position to win the war against Russia.
He explained: “The brutal invasion of Russia is losing momentum.
“With significant support from allies and partners in billions of dollars, in military support, in financial support, humanitarian support, we know that with the bravery of the Ukrainian people and army and with our help, Ukraine can win this war.”
The update comes as Finland formally confirms its intentions to join Nato, even after a stark nuclear missile warning from Russia earlier this week.
President Sauli Niinistö told a press conference: “The president and the government’s foreign policy committee have agreed that after consulting parliament, Finland will apply for Nato membership.
“A protected Finland is being born as part of a stable, strong, and responsible Nordic region.”
He said the decision marks “a historic day” for the Nordic country, and said: “A new era is opening. A lot has happened since the day Russia invaded Ukraine.
“We gain security, and we also share it. It’s good to keep in mind that security isn’t a zero-sum game.”
