The European Council chief, Charles Michel, praised the release of the 16 individuals who were described as 'unjustly jailed by the Russian regime.' Michel took to his official account to acknowledge the efforts of those in Europe who contributed to making the diplomatic deal possible. He also emphasized the EU's unwavering commitment to supporting and advocating for all individuals who are illegally detained in Russia and other regions.
In addition to Michel's statements, a NATO spokesperson also lauded the collaborative efforts of several NATO allies who played a crucial role in brokering the deal that led to the freedom of the prisoners. The spokesperson highlighted the importance of freedom of the media and the right to peaceful opposition in any society. Furthermore, the spokesperson called for the immediate release of all individuals who are still wrongfully detained.
