A Bristol company that provides machinery for working at height has established a new flagship depot in the South West, creating 20 jobs.
Nationwide Platforms has relocated its Bristol depot from Ashton Gate to Avonmouth in a move the company said would help "innovate" the way it operates. More machines have been purchased to supplement the relocated fleet, including more electric and hybrid options.
Some 10 staff have already been hired to increase the size of the on-site call centre, while another 10 are being recruited to establish an engineering night shift by September. It will mean the total number of jobs at the depot will have increased by about a third since the move, Nationwide Platforms said.
The company, which is also Europe’s largest provider of specialist at-height training, has also installed a virtual reality (VR) facility at Avonmouth. The tech will provide workers with a true-to-life experience of operating access platforms.
James Clewer, head of sales and operations for Nationwide Platform’s South West region, said: “This new depot is a game changer for us. It’s an incredibly exciting project, and a sign of the company going from strength to strength."
The announcement follows a major programme of investments in Nationwide Platform’s UK fleet over the last year. The company acquired more than 1,100 new machines, increasing its 13,500-machine fleet by more than 8%.
