Given its versatility and general deliciousness, pizza is a dish that can be enjoyed all-year round - but there's no better time to get stuck into your favourite slice than on National Pizza Day.
And while the annual celebration of the Italian creation might technically only run for 24 hours on February 9, who's to say we can't use it as an excuse to head out to our favourite pizzeria this weekend?
After all, we're well and truly spoiled for choice when it comes to good pizza in Bristol, with a wealth of chain and independent restaurants serving it up exceedingly well.

L'Osteria, Quakers Friars
My recommendation is L'Osteria in Quakers Friars. Granted I've not been to many pizza joints in Bristol but this one is always super busy and fully booked - so it must be up there! The pizzas are absolutely gigantic (see pic for reference) and the base is really thin which I like. There are loads of authentic toppings to choose from, and it's not bad value either at about £12.50 each (from what I can remember). I'd definitely recommend this place but make sure to book a table so you're not waiting ages!

Bocabar, Finzels Reach/Paintworks
It's so hard to pick just one but I have to go with classic Bocabar, mainly because their selections are endless and the crusts are a solid 10 out of 10 for crispiness. But L'Osteria is a very close second just because their pizzas are absolutely huge.

Mission Pizza at Left Handed Giant, Finzels Reach
I never step foot into the LHG with the intention of ordering food but I am always tempted by Mission Pizza's menu on every visit. Their light, artisan pizzas are the perfect accompaniment to one (or several) of LHG's own-brewed beers beside an impressive riverside backdrop.

Bertha's, Wapping Wharf
In a city bursting with brilliant pizza places, Bertha's still manages to stand out from the pack. Owner/chef Graham Faragher swapped life as a McLaren F1 engineer for pizzas and he has done forensic research on what makes the perfect sourdough base. And it shows. The pizzas are world-class and the Meat & Heat, with its spicy and sweet contrasts of pepperoni, 'hot' honey and creamy mozzarella is as good as you'll eat in Bristol.

Pizzarova, various locations
It's hardly a 'hidden gem' as it's so well-known in Bristol, but it would be remiss not to include Pizzarova on this list. One of my happier memories of lockdown was sitting in the sunshine in Queen Square while tucking into one of their pizzas from the Park Street branch, once restaurants were allowed to offer takeaways. Next time though I'll be branching out to try Back Garden Pizzeria in BS5, as I've heard so many rave reviews about it from friends

Pizza Bianchi, Queens Road
We're spoiled for choice when it comes to good pizza in Bristol but Pizza Bianchi takes the crown for me, despite the fact it's a relative newcomer. I love the diner-style feel of the laid back restaurant and the quality of the ingredients is quite evidently very high. I've only been a couple of times but I'm already looking forward to my next visit.
