Newcastle United backed up their sensational away victory at Tottenham with a thumping home triumph over Aston Villa. A brace from Callum Wilson and goals from Miguel Almiron and Joelinton sealed a comfortable 4-0 victory at St James' Park.

Newcastle's 'unique option' for England
Writing for Sky Sports, Ron Walker wrote: "More noteworthy than Newcastle winning at home - again - was the performance of Wilson, especially with England manager Gareth Southgate watching on. The one thing denying him the perfect late claim for a place on the plane to Qatar next month was a hat-trick goal, and even then only the width of the goalframe stopped him taking home the match ball.

"Wilson scored from the spot, added another with his head and assisted two other goals, both on the break. He showcased his all-round game beyond being a pacy finisher and will have given the England boss a headache as he weighs up his options.
"The 30-year-old would be a unique option in the Three Lions' current set-up, possessing that raw speed which they have lacked since Jamie Vardy's international retirement, and no-one could deny he also has the quality to go with it.
"With Tammy Abraham out of form in Serie A and Dominic Calvert-Lewin only just back from injury, could a Kane-Toney-Wilson strikeforce be jetting off from Heathrow next month? If Southgate is going on form, which is a big if, then there's no reason why not."
'Only sour note' for Newcastle
Writing for the Daily Mail, Craig Hope wrote: "It is a marker of how far Newcastle United have come that, on another awesome afternoon inside St James’ Park, the only sour note was a late Tottenham winner at the opposite end of the country which knocked them from third into fourth. A year ago, they were at the opposite end of the table.
"For to appreciate just how transformative Eddie Howe’s management has been - his side are five points off top - you must journey into the past.
"After 13 matches last season, they were bottom. They were also winless. This latest victory sees them sign off for October with 16 points from 18.
"Even the presence of the national-team managers of England and Brazil is an indicator of the distance travelled in 12 months. There was little reason to venture here this time last year."

Writing for the BBC, Matt Gault wrote: Another scintillating attacking display capped a superb month for Newcastle, who took 16 points from a possible 18 in October.
"Playing a Premier League game while starting the day in the top four of the table for the first time since April 2012, Howe's side underlined their status as contenders for a Champions League spot by stretching their unbeaten run to eight games."
'Sliding doors' moment for Newcastle
Writing for the Sun, Oscar Paul wrote: "And to think Unai Emery actually turned Newcastle down. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but while Aston Villa’s new manager is parachuted into a battle at the bottom, the giddy Toon Army are singing about winning the league.
"Villa are the latest to feel the full force of St James’ Park, with the Tyneside express just about unstoppable right now. Emery decided to stay at Villarreal last November when the Magpies’ new owners chose him over Eddie Howe as their first manager.
