National Lottery defends EuroMillions winners' decision to go public

The National Lottery has explained why some winners choose to reveal their identities after scooping the jackpot.

A spokesperson for the firm said that, for some winners, going public can bring "peace of mind" and help them enjoy their new fortune without having to keep "such a big secret" from their family and friends.

The comments were made just hours after the UK's biggest ever lottery winners came forward, Manchester Evening News reports.
