National Lottery defends EuroMillions biggest ever winners' choice to go public

The National Lottery has explained why some lottery winners decide to reveal their identities shortly after scooping the jackpot. It comes after Joe and Jess Thwaite from Gloucestershire won the biggest ever Euromillions jackpot, with a staggering £184m win.

The pair broke the record for the highest amount won in a lottery game in the UK by more than £14 million and attended a press conference at Ellenborough Park hotel in Cheltenham to reveal their identities, be pictured and spill the beans on their incredible win. Shortly after their identities were revealed, huge numbers of people took to social media to share their congratulations to the couple . But there were also those who were surprised at the winners' decision to go public.

As the MEN reports, one surprised social media user took to Twitter to say: "I really don’t understand why those who win the lottery choose to publicise themselves especially over social media… cool you won it keep it to yourselves go and live your lives. I don’t think it’s fair on the young children either."
