Nathaniel Wood announces move to featherweight: ‘That’s the end of a chapter for now’

Nathaniel Wood is done at 135 pounds, at least for now.

Formerly a member of the UFC bantamweight division, Wood announced Thursday his elevation to featherweight and asked followers for their opinions on whom he should face in his divisional debut.

“That’s the end of a chapter for now, myself and the team have made the decision to move up and compete at the 145lbs,” Wood wrote in a tweet. “I’m excited and motivated more than either to go in there powerful, fuelled [sic] and happy! Who would you like to see me face?”

Wood, 28, joined the UFC in 2018 after a stint as Cage Warriors champion. Over the course of six fights, Wood has compiled a 4-2 UFC record with victories over Johnny Eduardo, Andre Ewell, Jose Quinonez and John Castaneda.

In recent months, Wood has failed to reenter the cage for competition. After he withdrew from a September bout against Jonathan Martinez, Wood was removed from UFC Fight Night 204 in March after two opponents, Liudvik Sholinian and Vince Morales, withdrew from scheduled contests. The bout against Morales was expected to be rescheduled, but an audible seemingly has been called.
