Nathan Patterson handed Everton U23 debut as former Rangers star grabs assist on first outing

Nathan Patterson grabbed an assist on his debut for Everton U-23s on Monday night.

The former Rangers right-back sealed a move worth an initial £11.5million to Goodison Park earlier in the January transfer window.

Significant add-ons could up the fee further if the 20-year-old progresses in the Premier League.

But for now he's been handed some valuable game-time with a first outing in a Premier League 2 clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Monday night.

And the Scotland international made a vital first contribution as he picked out Lewis Dobbin with a cross from the right for the forward to head home the opener.

Patterson was left out of the senior squad by interim manager Duncan Ferguson on Saturday.

The Toffees were defeated 1-0 by Aston Villa as the defender was denied a reunion with former boss Steven Gerrard.

Ex-Celtic loanee Jonjoe Kenny has commanded the right-back slot in recent matches, with Everton languishing in 16th in England's top-flight.

Earlier in January, the club sacked manager Rafa Benitez after just six months in charge.
