Former Everton striker James McFadden has told Frank Lampard that Nathan Patterson will need help to reach the top at Goodison Park.
The Scotland cap has struggled since leaving Rangers in January for the English Premier League.
Patterson signed during Rafa Benitez's spell in charge but the Spaniard was quickly replaced by Lampard in the midst of a relegation scrap.
And since the 20-year-old has made just one appearance, a 45 minute run out against Boreham Wood in the FA Cup, before an ankle knock kept him out for the remainder of Everton 's campaign.
Patterson also missed out on Scotland's crucial World Cup playoff with the Ukraine, and is looking towards pre-season with The Toffees.
Following a torrid time since leaving Ibrox, McFadden reckons the right-back can wipe the slate clean next season.
However, he may need a mentor like captain Seamus Coleman to hit top form south of the border.
Speaking to the Everton website, McFadden said: “He’s come down and hasn’t played much yet, but he’s shown with his performances with Scotland that he’s a talented player.
“It won’t faze him coming to play for Everton. It’s great for Everton and it’s great for Scotland.
"Seamus is going to be key for him because he came to the club as a young player.
“Seamus will no doubt help him because he’s captain as well. He is probably one of the best signings the Club has ever made in terms of value.
“No doubt he will learn from Seamus and there’s no better player to learn from.”
