Narak Chaturdashi Muhurat 2023: Significance and timing

Narak Chaturdashi, also known as Yam Chaturdashi or Choti Diwali, is the auspicious day that precedes Lakshmi Pooja, marking the triumph of good over evil. This festival holds great importance for Hindus, dedicated to worshipping various deities. According to Hindu mythology, on this day, Lord Krishna saved 16,000 gopis and defeated the demon Narakasura. As a result, people light clay lamps, worship Lord Krishna, and adorn their homes.

Narak Chaturdashi timing (Yam Chaturdashi):

On this evening, an oil lamp is lit outside the main door in the name of Yamraj. After worshiping it in a vessel with Ganadhyakshaya, the lit lamp is placed facing south.

Timing:

The Tithi or timing starts from 02:45 pm (14:45) on 11th November.

Therefore, Yam Chaturdashi will be celebrated in the evening of 11th November. On this day, by taking a bath before sunrise and after moonrise, a person avoids seeing Yamalok. However, this year, after Chaturdashi moonrise, in Pratyush Kamal before sunrise, this coincidence falls on 12th November, the day of Diwali.

Thus, the above Muhurat or timing pertains to Narak Chaturdashi.
