Naomi Osaka and Barbora Krejcikova withdraw from Dubai Tennis Championships

Naomi Osaka poses for picture on a busy street

In disappointing news for tennis fans, both Naomi Osaka and Barbora Krejcikova have announced their withdrawal from the Dubai Tennis Championships. Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam champion, is still in the process of finding her rhythm on the tour after returning from a maternity break just last month. Unfortunately, her comeback has been met with early exits in the Australian Open, Abu Dhabi, and most recently, the Qatar Open quarterfinals, where she fell to Karolina Pliskova.

Expressing her regret, Osaka stated on the tournament's website, 'I'm really sorry that I have to withdraw from the Dubai Tennis Championships this season.' It's worth noting that her last appearance in this event was five years ago, making her absence even more disappointing for fans who were hoping to see her in action.

On the other hand, Barbora Krejcikova, a former French Open champion and last year's winner of the Dubai title, has withdrawn due to a back injury. This decision was not an easy one for the 28-year-old Czech player, especially considering her fond memories and anticipation of competing again at this prestigious event. However, her back injury requires additional healing time, compelling her to focus on her recovery rather than pushing through the pain.

Krejcikova expressed her commitment to coming back stronger next year, stating, 'This decision wasn't easy, especially given my fond memories and anticipation to compete again. However, my back injury requires further healing time. But I am committed to returning stronger next year.'

The absence of both Osaka and Krejcikova adds to the disappointment for fans eagerly looking forward to watching some of the world's top tennis players in action at the Dubai Tennis Championships. However, injuries and setbacks are an unfortunate reality of sports, and players must prioritize their long-term health and well-being.

Tennis enthusiasts will have to wait a little longer to see Osaka and Krejcikova back on the court, but in the meantime, we can support them in their recovery journeys and eagerly anticipate their return with anticipation.
