Something had to give.
Nancy Meyers took to Instagram Tuesday to announce she isn’t done making movies after all.
“I guess I’m not retired!” the “Something’s Gotta Give” and “It’s Complicated” writer-director, 72, captioned a screen grab of Deadline’s article announcing her forthcoming collaboration with Netflix. “Excited!”
Sources did not detail for Deadline the title of the film — described simply as “an ensemble comedy” — nor what it will be about.
As she has with many of her films, Oscar nominee Meyers will once again produce.
A staple in the romantic comedy genre, Meyers last released “Father of the Bride Part 3 (ish),” a short for Netflix’s social media accounts which reunited “Father of the Bride” — and “Father of the Bride Part II” stars Steve Martin, Diane Keaton, Martin Short, Kieran Culkin, Kimberly Williams and featured other familiar faces like Robert De Niro, Florence Pugh and Ben Platt.
The event, which fostered a bond between Meyers and Netflix film honcho Scott Stuber, served as a fundraiser for World Central Kitchen amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tuesday’s news is a far cry from Meyers’ remarks in late 2020, when she told Vulture that she hadn’t “had a new movie in a while, and I’m probably not going to have any more movies.”
A remake of 1950′s “Father of the Bride” and 1951′s “Father’s Little Dividend” respectively, 1991′s “Father of the Bride” was co-written by Meyers and her ex-husband, Charles Shyer, who also directed. Shyer, 70, also helmed the 1995 sequel, which he and Meyers also penned together.
