Nancy Guthrie's kidnapping case: Trump says 'feds have strong clues and answers coming up soon'

Federal authorities were close to identifying a suspect in the apparent abduction of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of NBC anchor Savannah Guthrie, President Trump said on Friday night aboard Air Force One.

“I think we’re doing very well on everything. You’re probably surprised to hear that,” Trump told reporters on Air Force One Friday night. “We have some clues that are very strong, and I think we could have some answers coming up very soon.”

Asked about a possible suspect, Trump said. “Yeah, could be definitive.”

“We have some things that I think will come out reasonably soon,” the president added. “A lot’s taken place in the last couple of hours.”

The Pima County Sheriff’s office said on Friday evening it was aware of a new message regarding the matriarch’s disappearance. Purported ransom notes were sent to media outlets earlier in the week.

The 84-year-old was last seen late on Jan. 31 and was reported missing after she failed to show up for church the next day.
